Our Responsibility
The community has to take on the role of making sure that the opportunities afforded to the `Baby Boomers` is passed on to our children and grandchildren. We as citizens have accessed the many worthwhile programs to assist us along the way. Our generation has enjoyed such things as free health care in the Province of Ontario, reasonable tuition to Colleges & Universities and for the most part a stable growth in the job market.As we retire from the workforce we should be able to say that we took part in making our community a cleaner better place to live.
My Belief
The cycle of poverty and reliance on social programs can be reduced drastically! Our unemployed, under employed and People on social assistance all share one great untapped asset, their mind. Computers For Kids and CFKrecycle believes that a mind is a terrible thing to waste and all that is needed is a hand up and not a hand out. Education and a new way of thinking is all that is needed to make families prosper.We have to be proactive and preventative when dealing with poverty!
Success
Since the beginning of Computers For Kids I have worked with the Unemployable, Disabled and Underemployed helping them realize their own potential. We have already had great success in this area with workers and Volunteers going on to find adequate employment. The children we serve don`t take the opportunity lightly. Children with little or no computer skills now have the tools to learn on their own and know how to find the answers and amaze me every day with their accomplishments.Computers For Kids is successfully giving back to the community!
